One of the main problems, though, is I don't have any way to create a good monster-catching game without Pokemon Essentials, and if I use that program, I might as well make a fangame, as the code itself contains references to Nintendo's IP. Ideally, I'd like to also change as much as I can of the game's mechanics while retaining its original intent. Rather than get hit with a cease and desist from the company, I've decided just to create another game that resembles a Pokemon game but does not use any of Nintendo's IP. It's risky to use someone else's IP, and Nintendo is a company that takes fan games as a pretty serious offense. I have everything I need to make a fairly decent Pokemon fangame using Pokemon Essentials, but I've decided not to go that route. I'm a fan of certain characters from the Pokemon anime, and originally I wanted to make a game showcasing why I love the characters.
